Behind the WheelBehind the Wheel Instruction for obtaining your Driver’s LicenseIf you took the driver's ed classroom thru New London-Spicer you are automatically registered for behind the wheel instruction.If you did not take the classroom portion through NL-S you must register to be on the call list. Contact the Community Ed Office at 320-354-1406 to find out what is needed to register. Once you register we will call close to your 16th birthday to complete this portion of training before your driving test. Students who take the Classroom at NLS (automatically registered) **Prior to October 1, 2025 Registration Fee: $20 (included in classroom fee) with balance of $260 prior to instruction starting. **After October 1, 2025 Registration Fee: $100 (included in classroom fee) with balance of $180 prior to instruction starting. Students with certificate of completion/Non NLS Classroom Students **Non NLS Classroom Students Registration Fee: $120 with balance of $230 due when instruction starts. **Registration Fees are Non-Refundable We encourage students to drive several hours per week with their parents to make them morecomfortable behind the wheel.Category -
Bowling Club (Grades K-4)Additional Recreation CoursesJoin us at Alley on Ash each month for some fun on the lanes. We will have a chance to bowl 2 games each time and have fun with our friends. Fee includes 2 games, shoe rental, a chaperone on site, a slice of pizza and juice. Parents pick up at 5pm at the bowling alley. Students should have a note to ride the shuttle bus #37 to the Alley on Ash. Cub Kids PreschoolCub Kids serves children ages 3–5 years old and aims to prepare them for Kindergarten. Cub Kids is an inclusion-based preschool program. Cub Kids is a fee-based preschool which is open from 8:15am - 3:00pm on school days following the New London-Spicer district calendar*. Cub Kids is billed monthly (on the 15th of the month). Families do have the option to pre-pay prior to being invoiced, if they do not want to commit to one large monthly payment. Before and After school care is available by registering for our Lil' PALS program. Hours for our Lil' PALS program Before school is 7:30-8:15am and costs $4/day. The After school hours for Lil' PALS is 3:00-5:30pm and costs $7/day. The mission of the Cub Kids program is to ensure that no child starts behind; and that every child is ready to enter Kindergarten as a confident and capable student. Our goals are to teach children in a developmentally appropriate environment that encourages growth for children socially, emotionally, physically, and academically. We believe that all children deserve a safe place to grow to their fullest potential. Our staff members strive to provide program activities that are based on the uniqueness within each group of children. *Cub Kids follows the NLS district calendar, with the exception of Election Day. NewDance - NLS Blackcat Youth Fundraiser (Completing K-6th Grade)Additional Recreation CoursesJoin the New London-Spicer Varsity Blackcat Dance Team for 2 fun-filled afternoons learning a dance to be performed on Thursday, March 26th at 6:30pm in the High School Auxiliary Gym (Sloppy Joe Supper Night). To avoid distractions we please request no spectators during class time. K-4th grade students should ride the shuttle bus to the Middle School. Dance staff will meet the students at the bus and bring them to the Performing Arts Center. Middle School students can report directly to the Performing Arts Center Lobby. Please bring a snack for practices. Parents pick up after practice at the Performing Arts Center Main Entrance at 5pm. Dancers please Wildcat colors for the performance.Winter 2025-2026 -

NewDriver's Education ClassroomClassroomThis class will be done in person. Attendance on ALL days for the entire time is mandatory to receive your blue cards.Registration will be open to those who are 14 1/2 years old by end of class date If you are soon to be 15 years of age or older and needing to meet the requirements from the State of Minnesota for classroom instruction before taking your permit test, this class is for you. The State of Minnesota requires that you successfully complete this mandatory class and be registered for a Behind the Wheel TrainingInstruction in order to obtain your blue card making you eligible to take your permit test online or at your local DMV office when you reach the minimum age of 15.Attendance on ALL days for the entire time is mandatory to receive your blue card. Students cannot be late to class. Before signing up for a session make sure yourcalendar is clear to attend all sessions for their entire length. We encourage students to take the class within six months or less of their15th birthday. Priority will be given to those students who are within 6 months of their birthday. (Any changes to attending a session once registered will be charged $20 and any cancellations once registered will be charged a $40 cancellation fee – so please plan ahead.) If your child misses any time during the session they are registered for you may be subject to a rescheduling fee up to $50. Once you have completed the course, reached a minimum of age 15 and passed your permit test you have to drive with a parent or guardian for a minimum of 50 hours over a period of no less than 6 months and keep a driving log (15 hours of night driving), complete a six hourBehind the Wheel course and reach age 16 before taking your driver’s test for licensure. Classroom fee includes a $100 non-refundable registration fee towards your Behind the Wheel Training and your Behind the Wheel Trainingbalance will be $180.00 due prior to training starting. (Closer to your 16th birthday) ***Parent Classroom Portion: Parents attend a 1 & 1/2 hour classroom session to learn more about the parents role in teen driving, tips on teaching your teen to be a better driver, new Minnesota laws and safety information. Parent will receive a certificate for completing the class when your child receives their white card. Parent Classroom Portion: Parents attend a 1 1/2 hour classroom to learn more about the parents role in teen driving, tips on teaching your teen to be a better driver, new Minnesota laws and safety information. Parents attendance at class will reduce the minimum number of mandatory logged driving hours to 40 hours over a period of not less than 6 months. Parent will receive a certificate for completing the class. Typically the parent class is offered in November of each year. If your child misses any time during the session they are registered for you may be subject to a rescheduling fee up to $50If your child misses any time during the session they are registered for you may be subject to a losing your entire class fee. Cancellations less than 7 days in advance may result in the total fee being forfeited. NewElementary Choir Club (Grades 3-4)EnrichmentCome join the 3rd and 4th grade after-school chorus! Ms. Bellman, the elementary music teacher, and Mr. Parker, the middle and high school choir teacher, will lead the chorus from 3:00-4:00pm on Thursdays in the Prairie Woods Music Room! This fun and engaging program offers students the chance to explore their love for singing, build teamwork, and develop their musical skills. Firearm Safety Classes (Must be 11 years old by test date)EnrichmentIf you are planning on hunting then this course is a must. Trained members from Izaak Walton League and the Community will spend 6 evenings with you and show you the correct and safe way to handle your hunting firearms. Pre-registration is required and attendance at all sessions. Plan ahead for your fall hunting!! This class is only offered in the winter/spring!! Participants must be 11 years old by time class finishes! You must pre-register. NLS students will receive the State/Parent permission form prior to classes starting and must fill out and return to the Community Ed Office before the 1st night of class. Non-NLS students will need to have a parent/guardian with the first night to fill out the permission form. No permission form returned/no classroom training! An additional fee will be due when you register online to receive your certificate. ALL classes must be attended. Range Testing: Saturday Location place and times TBD. More info will be sent home with the students prior to testing day. Parents must provide transportation to and from range. NO refunds once registered.Fall 2025
